Orthotics are used to treat and prevent many foot and related problems that can affect the ankle, knee, hip and lower back. Orthotics are also used for medical conditions such as arthritis and diabetes, and to correct poor biomechanics and gait alignment. Generally called arch supports, orthotics allow patients to walk and run more efficiently and comfortably.
At Potomac Valley Orthopaedic Associates, our trained orthotic technicians take plaster moldings of each foot to assure the custom orthotic has the maximum contact and support to stabilize your feet. It takes longer, but is the most accurate method available. We do not believe in cutting any corners. Each custom orthotic is unique with different specifications depending on your foot shape, size, body weight and activity level.
Our orthotic devices are extremely thin, making them more comfortable and less intrusive to wear. The orthotics are made to fit into patients’ existing shoes, including athletic cleats. Athletes are often given custom orthotics to relieve pain while they train and compete.
